Over the last week I have set out for you a
few movements that I particularly like as they follow the lines of the
generalised fascia patterns. Doing these movements regularly, with a conscious
mind and body and with the intention of releasing and opening movement, can help
to keep you functioning through your main planes of movements, helping prevent
stiffness and general aches and pains.
These are, of course, not a 'fix all'
programme and don't replace anything that you currently do which feels good and
beneficial in terms of maintaining movement. But if you are currently doing
nothing like this, and you have no specific pain or issues, then they could
really benefit you. What I like about all the movements is that they are really simple and therefore you can focus on really FEELING the movements as opposed to thinking about what you are doing. You can begin understand where your regular patterns of tightness and pull tend to be, and your body can learn to let them go. As you peel away the default holding patterns you can begin to experience new feelings within the movements, taking your practice deeper.
Different energies on different days will lean you towards certain movements more than others, or you may move slower, faster, more or less consciously from one day to the other. Be willing to 'listen' to what is presented to you through these movements. Go beyond just doing the moves, and the physical feedback, and discover what you can learn about yourself, your self talk and your attitude towards tending to your own needs.
In terms of how many you do, how often, how long, there is no right
or wrong. If you are consciously feeling and learning what you need from what
you are doing then why would you stop? If you are enjoying the movements, then
why would you stop? But by the same token, if you are just rattling through
them because you feel you should, then are you serving yourself at all? If you
feel pain (and the pain doesn't subside after a couple of moves) then what is
you body really telling you it needs?
Nurture yourself with these movements. Spend the time with yourself
– your WHOLE self. Get to know your body fully. Get curious about how you move
– where you prefer to move from, where you avoid moving? What happens if you
move with less effort, with more effort?
I have given you a set of movements. Imagine them as a toolkit for you to learn more about yourself. Your body and mind will do the rest, if given the chance.
How we move is a reflection of how we think, how we act and ultimately reflects what comes back to us.
So while I have given you a structure to guide you, make your intention from time to time to discover how you move, not just what you move.
Til tomorrow then.... :-)
CT :-) x
